Networking of warehouse technology devices
Toyota turns all appliances into smart trucks
Toyota Material Handling is introducing intelligent networking as standard for all warehouse trucks. The industrial trucks can then transmit all performance data via a telematics app.
With this step, practically all warehouse trucks produced at the Toyota production plant in Mjölby (Sweden) will become Smart Trucks with immediate effect - equipped with the technology for transmitting process-relevant performance data based on the in-house telematics system I-Site. By automatically collecting the data in a central database, Toyota and its customers can evaluate the information with regard to possible process optimizations.
"Our customers can use it to accurately measure the work that their forklifts are doing. They gain visibility of driver utilization and can manage impact and efficiency in key areas such as battery management. The goal is to maximize utilization of the equipment fleet and eliminate waste associated with unused trucks, as well as reduce errors and associated damage," explains Ralph Cox, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Sales.
Users can access fleet reports and operating hours via the I-Site portal or a mobile app. Toyota will use the database for further new developments, such as predictive equipment maintenance based on actual operating times or rental offers tailored to individual use.
All orders received from the beginning of October 2018 will already be equipped with the technology as standard, according to the company. The first deliveries are scheduled to take place before the end of November. as
