Three questions for... Dietmar Weik

Motek 2019: Tox Pressotechnik is known for its clinching technology. The company now also offers systems for semi-tubular self-pierce rivets. Managing Director Dietmar Weik explains what this is all about and what else Tox will be presenting at Motek.

Tox Pressotechnik is now also active in the field of semi-tubular rivets. What exactly does that mean?
We have made a good name for ourselves as a system supplier for clinching technology. However, our customers are also increasingly using semi-tubular self-pierce rivets for joining. We have taken this into account and now offer systems for semi-tubular self-pierce rivets in addition to systems for the reliable processing of solid self-pierce rivets, clinch rivets or functional elements. Our systems are designed to be "open" and can also apply different elements from different manufacturers. With the multi-technology control and the Tox modular system, the systems can be used flexibly. This means that the application can be changed quickly - for example from riveting to processing functional elements - and the systems configure themselves automatically. The intelligent ZVK module evaluates data and sensors and provides the user with all relevant information.

What is your focus at Motek?
We are focusing on electromechanical drives and our technological expertise. With the Tox-Electricdrive, we offer complete power packages for precise force generation and control from two to 1,000 kilonewtons. With integrated sensors, process monitoring and software, they are precisely controllable, very easy to program, particularly suitable for automation, energy-efficient and very economical overall. We demonstrate the variety of joining technologies using our technology exhibit. Here, visitors can experience and grasp the joining processes in combination with automation technology.

You have a wide range of customers in the industry. Which topics are particularly relevant for your customers at the moment and what does this mean for Tox Pressotechnik?
Many of our customers are currently focusing on electromobility. This development offers us great opportunities, as the high weight of batteries is reinforcing the trend towards lightweight construction. With technologies such as clinching, semi-tubular self-pierce riveting and press-fitting of functional elements, we offer our customers a wide range of solutions. In addition, more connections will be needed in the future to transmit high electrical power. This is where the advantages of Tox-eClinching, such as outstanding electrical conductivity, robustness and process reliability, come into play.
