Back health day

Investing in healthy employees pays off

March 15 is Back Health Day. Torwegge is therefore once again drawing attention to the topic of ergonomics in the workplace. In Germany, and particularly among production workers, back pain is one of the most common causes of sickness-related absences.

These are often caused by incorrect strain and unhealthy postures at the workplace. Torwegge offers solutions to reduce the workload and, of course, the workstations of its own employees are also ergonomically designed.

"Health management for employees should be an integral part of company management," says Uwe Eschment, Managing Director of Torwegge. Companies are more productive when they promote the health of their employees. This also includes creating working conditions that are easy on the body through ergonomically designed workstations. After all, low strain on muscles, bones and joints has a positive effect on performance. On the one hand, employees are less absent, and on the other, they are happier and therefore more motivated.

"Ensuring ergonomics in the workplace is an investment in the entire company," summarizes Eschment. In offices, for example, height-adjustable desks make sense. Where heavy goods have to be moved, maneuverable and smooth-running transport equipment or lifting tables are tried and tested means. The Bielefeld-based intralogistics specialist's portfolio includes numerous wheels, castors and components for conveyor technology that benefit ergonomics at various locations in production and logistics companies.

At Torwegge itself, employees use electrically adjustable lifting tables, electric ants and lifting cranes for order picking. In this way, employees are relieved both when handing over workpieces and when lifting, loading and unloading heavy goods. Height-adjustable desks are also standard in the administration department. To mark Back Health Day, the company would also like to raise awareness among other companies of the importance of employee health. "The shortage of skilled workers means that more and more managers are becoming aware of the importance of healthy employees. Now they just have to act accordingly," says Eschment. He hopes that the Germany-wide day of action will play a part in this.

Every year, March 15 is dedicated to back health with events, campaigns and workshops. Introduced in 2002 by the Pain Forum of the German Green Cross, this day promotes awareness of back-friendly posture and exercise in everyday life. The motto for 2020, which calls for active prevention of back problems, is: "Mindful throughout the day - mastering back strain in a healthy way." as
