Avancon installs sorter for Samsung smartphones
Together with the South Korean system integrator Asetec, a specialist in electronic control systems, pick-to-light systems and communication with higher-level BUS/IT systems, Avancon has installed a distribution and sorting system for the Samsung Distribution Center.
The system had to be suitable for small units such as the Galaxy Note 10, but also for larger boxes and other products. The requirements also included a short delivery time, the system had to fit into a relatively small existing area, it had to be fast enough and handle the goods gently, and it had to be safe for the operators.
The biggest challenge was that the Avancon team and the managing director responsible for Asia, Hyunmin Park from Seoul, had to produce this complex sorting system within four weeks.
"I had many discussions and conferences with our partner, the integrator Asetec in Seoul, and the logistics managers at Samsung. The question was how this system could be accommodated in the existing space and how 30,000 cartons per day could be quickly distributed to 28 destinations. We discussed various layouts," reports Hyunmin Park, "then we all visited the Avancon picking system from Hanmi Pharmaceutics, which has been in operation for over a year." The decision-makers and employees at Samsung were able to see the system in action and were ultimately convinced.
The engineers at the headquarters in Switzerland managed to produce the system within the short time frame. Hyunmin Park then had to work with the system integrator Asetec to ensure that it was installed and tested quickly. There was not much space between the 28 electronically controlled roller conveyor chutes. However, due to the plug-inconcept and the simplicity of the control system, which is based on the ASi fieldbus, Avancon was ultimately able to meet Samsung's requirements. When Samsung started delivering the new Galaxy Note 10, everything worked perfectly. as
