Packaging technology from Auer

Sustainable and yet economical

Auer Packaging specializes in the production of reusable plastic transport and storage containers. The company attaches great importance to using energy from renewable sources for production and administration, manufacturing high-quality, durable, recyclable reusable packaging and investing in energy-efficient systems.

"Not all plastics are the same," explains Managing Director Philipp Auer. "Basically, we are talking about a durable, easily recyclable material that has become an indispensable part of modern logistics as a container or packaging." Auer consistently relies on durable reusable plastic packaging. The following applies: only use as much material as necessary for the product-specific quality and otherwise focus on design details. An Auer container designed in this way has a life cycle of 15 years or more, at the end of which it is recycled. "And after the recycling process, the regranulated material is turned back into a new Auer product, such as a plastic pallet," explains Philipp Auer.

Regenerative energy generation
The company headquarters, built and insulated to modern energy standards, is 90 percent heated by a combined heat and power refrigeration system. "The heat we need is basically a waste product from cooling our injection molding systems," explains Sergej Andert, Production Manager and Member of the Management Board. Plan for 2020: The roof of the existing logistics hall is to be fitted with a 700 kWp PV system. The electricity generated in this way will be fed into the company's own power supply to operate the machines.

Resource-conserving production
"Consume as little energy as possible" is the management's motto. Consequently, the injection molding machines were equipped with a special, closed water system. Production Manager Andert explains: "We developed this ourselves. Our injection molding systems do not have an open system - as is common in the industry - in which water has to be added. No water is wasted here: Once topped up, the same water can remain in a closed circuit for up to ten years. The heat generated is then used to heat the building."

Another advantage of cooling at Auer: unlike open systems, no chemical additives need to be added to the water. Auer also continuously invests in new technology when selecting its production systems. The most recent acquisition of 13 new injection molding machines (2019) also focused on particularly energy-efficient drive systems and excellent insulation properties.

Sustainable and economical
Auer's steadily growing turnover figures (most recently 100 million euros in 2019) prove that environmental awareness and profitability do not have to be a contradiction in terms. "First and foremost, of course, we are entrepreneurs and have an eye on the balance sheet," says Philipp Auer. "But the past has shown that sustainable planning pays off. The investments in energy-efficient technology and material-saving design have definitely paid off for us - and not just in terms of our environmental footprint." as
