Interview with Jürgen Heim
"You can look forward to what's to come"
Collaborative robotics. In the USA, 6 River Systems is established in the retail, e-commerce, warehouse logistics and supply chain sectors with its mobile collaborative robotic fulfillment solutions. In this interview, Jürgen Heim, Sales Director Europe, talks about the plans for the new decade, the new European headquarters in Frankfurt and the trends to be expected in logistics.
Mr Heim, you have been on board at 6 River Systems for just under a year - how did you come to work for the fulfillment provider and what are your personal goals as the person responsible for expanding the European business?
When I first heard about 6 River Systems, I quickly realized that the Chuck fulfillment solution had huge potential. Jerome Dubois, one of the founders and co-CEO of 6 River Systems, finally convinced me. In the end, it was the combination of modern technology (robotics, AI, autonomous driving) and the opportunity to establish and develop the business in Europe. I couldn't pass that up. My goal is to further increase awareness of 6RS and make the company the undisputed market leader for AMR-based (Autonomous Mobile Robots) fulfillment solutions in Europe as well. The most important thing of all is, of course, satisfied customers who are enthusiastic about using our technology.
6 River Systems can look back on a successful year. How has the fulfillment provider developed and what are the plans for the new decade?
We have really achieved a lot in the last few months. The European launch of Chuck at Logimat last year was a huge success. We were also represented at IHMX in Birmingham and took part in several 3PL events in Belgium and Germany. The positive response from the market has been really impressive. Another highlight is the opening of our European headquarters in Frankfurt am Main a few weeks ago. Our Innovation Center is also located there, where we show interested parties how Chuck works as a flexible fulfillment solution.
"The aim is to establish 6 River Systems as a total solution provider for all logistics processes within a warehouse."
Our team in Germany is growing continuously and Chuck is already optimizing warehouse processes at several European locations. The enthusiasm of our customers for our technology is really motivating, as we are much more than just a robotics company. In addition to many new software features, we have recently introduced Mobile Sort and Packout - an ideal extension for batch picking. Chuck is now also able to perform putaway and replenishment. We have a very exciting product roadmap for the next few years, with a lot of new features and solutions to come.
With this in mind, 6 River Systems now has its European headquarters in Frankfurt. Why did you choose the metropolis on the River Main?
The city is located in the heart of Europe and has excellent connections to all cities in Europe, particularly Frankfurt Airport. It should also be as easy as possible for our European customers and interested parties to visit our headquarters. In addition, Frankfurt has developed into a cosmopolitan city in recent years. Almost a third of its inhabitants have an international background. This means that the Main metropolis has a very good network and an easily accessible infrastructure for people and families from abroad.
What opportunities does this offer your customers and potential customers in the Innovation Center?
We want our customers and prospective customers to experience Chuck in action so that they can see for themselves the benefits that Chuck brings to everyday warehouse operations. Our office in Frankfurt is set up like a real warehouse with shelves where you can carry out real picking processes or test the different picking strategies - such as order or batch picking. Our innovations, Mobile Sort and the Packout Station, can also be tried out here.
"Systems must be as adaptable as possible and also support tasks such as storage or replenishment."
How has Chuck developed since last year and what new features are you introducing this year? Keyword end-to-end fulfillment - what does that mean for the future and your portfolio?
We started out as a robotics company with the world's first autonomous cobot, which guides pickers through the warehouse. Our solution is now so comprehensive that we offer our customers a complete end-to-end fulfillment solution within a warehouse. But our vision does not stop there: The aim is to continuously develop 6 River Systems further and thus establish it as a total solution provider for all logistics processes within a warehouse. This year, we want to press ahead with this project. You can look forward to what lies ahead.
Let's take a look into the future: what developments do you expect to see in the logistics sector? What trends do you expect?
E-commerce and online retail will continue to grow rapidly in the coming years. Driven by promotions or seasonal peaks, demand will be much higher than we can imagine today. These developments demand maximum flexibility from automation solutions in logistics in order to be able to adapt to constantly changing requirements. Easy scalability is also essential in order to maintain an overview in rapidly growing and changing environments. The systems must be as adaptable as possible and also support tasks such as storage or replenishment. With Chuck and its many new features, we are well equipped to offer the best solution for today's requirements. With regard to our future plans and further developments, I believe we are also very well positioned for future changes and demands on warehouse automation. as
