Siemens takes over IST
Siemens and Gesellschaft für Industrielle Steuerungstechnik (IST GmbH), based in Chemnitz, have concluded an agreement on the takeover of the shares in IST GmbH by Siemens AG.
IST is an innovative automation technology company and is to be integrated into the Production Machines (PMA) business segment of Siemens Operating Company Digital Industries with its approximately 50 highly qualified software developers as of April 1, 2020. Siemens is also taking over IST's business premises in Chemnitz. The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price.
IST develops applications and services in the fields of industrial control, regulation and drive technology as well as electronics and mechatronics, which are used to control production machines. The company's high-tech products address the entire performance range. With the planned acquisition of IST, Siemens is expanding its expertise and development potential for the products, solutions and systems of the Factory Automation Business Unit (DI FA) in the rapidly growing market for production machines. The innovative strength and competitiveness of the business segment will thus be further strengthened. The aim is to expand the Chemnitz development site as a competence center for motion control in the field of production machines.
"As a long-standing development partner, IST GmbH has made a decisive contribution to the excellent competitive position of the Siemens Production Machines segment," says segment head Michael Thomas. "The company and its employees ideally complement our development expertise." Prof. Karl Hess, Managing Director of IST, confirms: "The opportunities arising from the acquisition of Siemens are immense. With their know-how and experience of over 20 years in the realization of control technology components and technologies in mechanical engineering, our employees will secure and strengthen Siemens' development expertise in the field of motion control for production machines."
