Holistic automation qualification
SMC and Fanuc Academy cooperate
SMC Germany and Fanuc have been working together for three years to equip the Fanuc Academy, the company's own training center at its German headquarters in Neuhausen auf den Fildern. SMC supplies electrical and pneumatic automation solutions for the Academy's robotics and automotive training rooms.
"From electric cylinders from the LEY series to SY valve terminals with an IO-Link connection, our high-performance technologies are used at Fanuc," says Didactic Manager Thomas Meyer. Two rooms are already equipped, and a third will be set up in the course of 2019.
"Our expertise complements each other very well. Fanuc is the global market leader for industrial robots and CNC control systems, and as a leading manufacturer, partner and solution provider for electrical and pneumatic automation technology, we offer a product catalog with 12,000 basic models and more than 700,000 variants," explains Meyer. "The likelihood that technicians will come into contact with combinations of our products in production and maintenance, for example with robot arms, is therefore high."
Jens Mühlegg, Technical Sales Support Universities and Education Centers at Fanuc Germany, agrees: "It therefore makes sense to equip our training courses at Fanuc with state-of-the-art automation solutions from SMC." This is why seven robotics training cells use LEY series electric cylinders and SY series valve terminals with IO-Link in addition to maintenance units and swing clamp cylinders. The robust valve terminals with steel spools are extremely durable with up to 200 million switching cycles. Like the LEY cylinders with a clean design, they are ideal for applications in the food and pharmaceutical industries. The training cells therefore offer the most realistic environment possible for high-quality training.
The academy offers the best conditions for the comprehensive qualification of automation experts. The training center offers space for 19 training rooms in which internal and external lecturers teach participants from the food and automotive industries, aviation and electronics, among others, in a sustainable and future-oriented manner directly on the product. The course program is adaptable in terms of difficulty and detail - from beginners to automation professionals for a wide range of industries.
"Thanks to the cooperation with Fanuc, not only employees and prospective automation experts from other companies come into contact with SMC products and learn how to use them optimally," says Thomas Meyer. "Our own employees also have the opportunity to train and develop using the optimum combination of SMC and Fanuc solutions."
