Profibus and Profinet International at SPS Connect
The Profibus user organization uses the virtual trade fair to present the latest developments in network technologies.
Regardless of the coronavirus pandemic, Profibus and Profinet International (PI) technologies are being further developed in a targeted manner towards Industry 4.0 and the results presented to the public. The focus of the presentation at SPS Connect 2020 will be on innovations relating to Profinet, safety, drive technology with Profidrive, Omlox positioning technology, IO-Link and Industry 4.0-relevant aspects of vertical communication.
New security technology
With the Profisafe profile for functional safety applications and Profidrive as an open drive profile, Profinet offers the possibility of easily integrating a wide variety of devices from many manufacturers and implementing flexible machine concepts. The new physical layer Ethernet-APL now also opens up the intrinsically safe area in the process industry. And with IO-Link, simple standardized wiring of sensors is available as a supplement.
In cooperation with the OPC Foundation, the IO-Link community has defined the Companion Specification "OPC UA for IO-Link" and the use of the JSON exchange format for IO-Link. Mappings in OPC UA are also being developed for Profinet so that device and diagnostic data can be used in IT applications with little effort. For example, predictive maintenance scenarios or asset management can be implemented in the system. These standardized information models are a key focus of PI's work today.
PI's new "omlox" technology - the first open standard for real-time positioning in buildings and production facilities - also fits into this context. Here, leading manufacturers have come together under the PI umbrella to create an interoperable and manufacturer-independent standard with the help of different positioning technologies.
