e-Estonia digitizes the manufacturing industry
With 1.3 million inhabitants in an area the size of Lower Saxony, Estonia is considered the most digital country in the world.
The capital Tallinn is the economic and cultural center of the country and is home to 430,000 inhabitants. This is also where the digital heart of the country beats: "e-Estonia". The "e" stands for electronic and has become a symbol of the country's great passion for everything that is networked and digitalized.
Digitization began in the mid-1990s with "Tiigrihüpe", the Tiger Leap programme. Estonia expanded it from the administrative sector into education and industry. Estonian companies supply international markets with digital solutions for IoT and Industry 4.0 applications, for robotics, automation and mechatronic solutions or act as contract manufacturers. Pioneers are the information and communication (ICT), mechanical engineering and metalworking or electronics industries; the latter two have an export rate of 80 and 94 percent respectively.
World-renowned digital companies from Estonia include Hotmail, the video and voice service Skype and TransferWise (an online money transfer service) - with a market capitalization of over 1 billion US dollars.
A select group of leading Estonian electronics developers and manufacturers will be presenting their solutions at Productronica 2021.
