With the Varitron 500 central processing unit, the supplier Jumo wants to enter a new age of automation. In terms of technical possibilities, the system plays in the premier class of embedded systems; it is characterized by high speed performance and a flexible operating philosophy.
The basis is a hardware platform with an 800 megahertz processor, which can be used as a single, dual or quad-core variant depending on the application; scalability was a top priority during development. The software has a modular structure based on a Linux platform. Several operating stations can be integrated into the system via Codesys remote target or web visualization as well as up to 64 intelligent connection modules. Jumo provides visualization libraries for individual customer-specific operation. Flexibility also enables the integration of all important fieldbus systems. In future, a Profinet IO device interface will enable connection to higher-level control systems via Modbus TCP as an alternative. pb
