CE marking at BMW
Safe collisions in HRC applications
BMW works together with Pilz to ensure safety when working with assistance robots. The automation company carries out the conformity assessment, including the final CE marking. Pilz thus ensures safe human-robot collaboration at BMW.
Workplaces where humans and robots work together without guards pose a particular safety challenge. BMW also relies on Pilz's expertise in Europe and the USA: the automation company carries out the conformity assessment procedure prescribed by law at various BMW production sites in Germany, England and the USA: from the risk assessment to the safety concept, validation and CE marking of several applications. As the authorized representative, Pilz signs the final declaration of conformity and thus assumes responsibility for ensuring that each application meets the requirements of the respective market.
BMW uses flexible robot assistance systems in production. Here, employees and robots work together in a very confined space without any safety fences. Collisions between humans and machines can and may occur, but they must not pose any danger to people. This is why the validation of HRC applications plays a special role: Pilz experts determine whether the possible collisions are harmless in terms of safety. Pilz uses a collision measurement set developed in-house for this purpose at BMW, as it does for other customers. as
