Kuka at the Motek

Kuka pours again at Motek

From HRC and pick-and-place applications to ready2_use cells, intuitive operation with the new Smartpad and the networking of the manufacturing world: Kuka is presenting an excerpt from its portfolio at Motek.

The beer pouring beer Paulii will be there again this year. With the use of the LBR iiwa, Kuka is demonstrating the possibilities of sensitive robotics and human-robot collaboration in an entertaining way. Together with a human colleague, the dispensing robot performs all the necessary steps: Grasping the bottle, opening it and skillfully pouring wheat beer.

Jogging, shaking, pick-and-place
Together with system partner Flexfactory, Kuka is presenting an "Anyfeeder" cell that is designed for pick-and-place tasks involving a wide range of unsorted industrial components. The cell consists of a conveyor belt via which small parts - for example from the electronics sector - are fed to a vibrating plate. There, the parts are shaken until they lie evenly next to each other on one level. In combination with a camera system, the KR 3 Agilus small robot recognizes the individual parts, picks them up and sorts them.

With ready2_fasten_micro, Kuka offers manufacturers of small parts and delicate products a solution for the robot-assisted assembly of micro screws. According to the manufacturer, the flexible and easy-to-integrate complete package is particularly suitable for the electronics industry. Together with its partner Dürr, Kuka has also developed the ready2_spray package for automated paint application using a compact robot. The robot comes from Kuka, Dürr contributes the technology for paint application.

A new way of operating robots
The more sophisticated the capabilities of (industrial) robots become, the more important intuitive user interfaces are. This is why Kuka has further developed the Smartpad, which is used as an operating device for all Kuka robots with the KR C4 controller. The new Smartpad will replace the old generation from 2019. Its ergonomic design makes it easy to handle. The software and hardware ensure optimum performance. The new control panel also has a capacitive touch display that responds as sensitively as a smartphone.

As megatrends such as digitalization and networking are playing an increasingly important role, Kuka is showcasing the cloud-based software platforms Connect and Smartproduction. With Connect, customers can access and analyze their robots' data anywhere and at any time. Smartproduction makes it possible to connect the entire production line with the digital world. The software processes the data from all process-relevant machines and components. Not only products can be integrated into the Smartproduction environment, but all active components of a production line. as
