A cobot that can draw was presented by the IPH, Institute for Integrated Production Hannover at Hannover Messe 2024. The exhibit illustrated the connection between artificial intelligence and robotics in production.
The IPH trade fair exhibit is an example of how robots can also master unpredictable situations in conjunction with AI. They do not need to be reprogrammed. This offers small and medium-sized companies in particular the opportunity to maintain or even increase their production in times of a shortage of skilled workers and strengthens Germany as a business location.
Collaborative robots can take over tasks in a production facility that were previously carried out by human workers. They can work directly with humans and are intended to support skilled workers. The cobot presented by IPH can trace photos in detail. The previously unknown photos are analyzed using AI image recognition and converted into movement instructions for the cobot.
The combination of robotics and AI image recognition can be implemented in various production areas in the future, for example in welding. The robot could automatically analyze a joint to be welded and then independently calculate and carry out the necessary movements. At the trade fair stand, IPH employees provided information on other AI applications, such as AI-based sales planning, automated order checking and AI-based analysis of medical data.
