The declines affected both Germany and abroad. Incoming orders from countries outside the eurozone fell particularly sharply. Orders in the period from January to April fell 1.8% short of the previous year's figure.

At €15.1 billion, turnover in the German electrical and electronics industry in April 2019 was only slightly higher than a year ago. In the first four months of the year, aggregated industry turnover increased by 1.0% year-on-year to €62.6 billion. "All in all, the business climate in the German electrical and electronics industry recovered slightly in May," says Gontermann. "Although the current situation was assessed slightly less favorably than in the previous month, general business expectations were better."
