Printed circuit board signal transmissions
TE Connectivity (TE) has expanded its AMPMODU connector system to include PCB connectors with a 2 mm pitch.
The new connectors save 38 percent space on the PCB compared to connectors with a 2.54 mm (0.1 inch) pitch. The new 2 mm family was developed primarily for use in factory and process automation applications with high requirements for a small form factor, including programmable logic controllers, I/O modules, servo drives, frequency converters, industrial robots, measuring and test equipment and devices for intelligent building automation.
The connectors, which are available as breakaway pin headers and PCB-to-board socket connectors, simplify automatic surface mounting as well as through-hole reflow (pin-in-paste) and classic through-hole assembly.
As the 2 mm breakaway headers can be mounted on PCBs with a thickness of 1.6 mm and 2.4 mm, users have numerous options for PCB assembly. The through-hole headers are available with straight or right-angled contact pins with a length of 4.0 mm (0.16 inch) (length of the contacts above the plastic insulation, which can be connected to the socket in a pluggable application) and a lead-out length of 2.8 mm (0.11 inch), as well as special lengths on request depending on the PCB thickness and soldering process.
The flame-retardant (UL94 V0) thermoplastic housing withstands high reflow soldering temperatures and ensures maximum safety in harsh environmental conditions. The product range includes single and double row versions and is available in bulk, tube and tape and reel packaging.
The 2 mm PCB-to-board female headers, whose housing is made of a high-temperature-resistant liquid crystal polymer (LCP), have phosphor bronze contacts with two contact springs, which are available with a gold coating in three thicknesses. This design provides an increased contact area between the pins of the male connectors and the contacts of the female connectors, ensuring reliable signal transmission.
