Major order for battery pack line

The production of battery packs for electromobility is a particular challenge. Kuka is supplying a fully automated production system for an international automotive supplier.

In the fourth quarter of 2019, Kuka was awarded the contract for the planning and delivery of a fully automated battery pack line, a major order in the double-digit million euro range. Battery systems for fully electric vehicles are to be produced on this line from 2021.

In addition to the demanding process steps required for assembly, the high capacity and technical availability, the quality requirements and the systematic recording of all relevant process data are particular challenges for the ultra-modern production line.

Kuka uses over 50 industrial robots here, from feeding, cleaning and measuring the battery frames to testing the battery modules and joining and screwing them into the battery frame, electrical contacting, sealing, screwing and quality control.

Transparent production and simplified operation

Due to the high importance and safety relevance of battery systems, the traceability of the installed components and the individual production steps is becoming increasingly important in production. The Kuka control standard miKuka offers an efficient technology platform to ensure simple, transparent operation and monitoring of the line via the user interface.

"We are proud that Kuka's extensive expertise and experience in the automation of battery production is convincing and that we can support our customers in the automotive industry in making e-mobility a reality."
