Analysis and control in production
Zeiss Group takes over MES specialist Guardus
Zeiss and Guardus announce the wholly-owned acquisition of the Ulm-based provider of software solutions for computer-aided quality assurance and production management systems by the Zeiss Group.
For Zeiss, the integration of Guardus into its Industrial Metrology (IMT) division further strengthens its own positioning as a partner for higher productivity in digitalized manufacturing. This is because the Computer Aided Quality (CAQ) applications and Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) from Guardus provide customers with a fully integrated analysis and control function for production.
"With Guardus, our software solutions such as Zeiss PiWeb will be supplemented by a previously unavailable comprehensive database and we will be able to offer our customers even more comprehensive services. Together we are striving for a new level of integrated solutions for agile process control. We are concerned with the foundation for automated control processes, learning systems and simulation methods for networked and intelligent quality assurance in the smart factory," explains Dr. Jochen Peter, Member of the Executive Board of the Zeiss Group and Chairman of the Management Board of Carl Zeiss Industrielle Messtechnik GmbH.
"We are convinced that the integration into the Zeiss Group, with its large installed base, will provide Guardus with even better starting conditions for further developments and continued strong growth," says founder and CEO of Guardus Simone Cronjäger. "The integration of the Guardus solutions and thus all vertical and horizontal information processes creates a unique decision-making intelligence. It extends from the field and control level to the comprehensive process and operations management level."
The joint initial customer focus is on the automotive and mechanical engineering industries as well as medical technology. The existing Guardus sites in Ulm and Timisoara, Romania, are to be retained. The transfer of operations for the approximately 60 employees will be organized in accordance with the statutory regulations. kp
