VDW shortens Metav to four days

The date for the next Metav has been set. The International Trade Fair for Metalworking Technologies will take place in Düsseldorf from Tuesday to Friday, March 10 to 13, 2020. The VDW is thus shortening the trade fair to four days.

"In line with the exhibitors' vote, we are thus shortening Metav from five to four days," says Dr. Wilfried Schäfer, Executive Director of Metav organizer VDW (German Machine Tool Builders' Association) in Frankfurt am Main. In the exhibitor survey at the end of the trade fair, over 75 percent of exhibitors voted in favor of a shorter duration of four days.

Metav is thus taking a step that other capital goods trade fairs have already taken earlier against the backdrop of changes in the living and working habits of trade fair visitors. "Saturday is a relic that no longer corresponds to today's trade fair visitor behavior. People value their free weekend and don't want to spend it at a trade fair," explains Schäfer. Metav came to an end in February 2018 after five days.

The development of visitor attendance on Saturday showed that it was no longer in sufficient demand. For the majority of exhibitors, shortening the duration of the trade fair increases the efficiency of their participation. "Experience from other trade fairs shows that the Saturday visitors are largely spread over the other four days and thus ensure even higher capacity utilization at the stands," says Schäfer. "We are convinced that the new date will suit exhibitors and visitors alike and significantly increase the benefits of Metav for both customer groups." kp
