VDMA
Maintaining supplies for people
According to the VDMA, the fight against the coronavirus pandemic can only succeed if people adhere to the recommended behavior and the industry can continue to provide the vital infrastructure.
"Mechanical engineering in particular is now of crucial importance. The role of mechanical engineering as a player behind medical care, logistics chains and the food industry should not be underestimated. Our companies must ensure that food, medicines and protective clothing can continue to be produced, that power plants remain connected to the grid and that cleaning vehicles continue to run. To achieve this, supply chains must be maintained at all costs," says VDMA President Carl Martin Welcker.
VDMA acknowledges the primacy of politics
Industrial supply chains are highly interconnected across Europe. This is why politicians, particularly in the European Union, must continue to ensure the smooth movement of goods. "And we must be able to send our service staff on their way both at home and abroad," emphasizes Welcker.
The mechanical engineering sector welcomes the Chancellor's address and acknowledges the primacy of politics. "As entrepreneurs, we are living up to our social responsibility and are taking all measures to protect our employees and society as a whole in order to overcome the crisis as quickly as possible," says the VDMA President.
The mechanical engineering sector, which is dominated by SMEs, is doing all it can to support the German government and the European Commission in their efforts to slow down the spread of the virus. "As the largest industrial employer in Germany, we are aware of our responsibility here."
