TSA equips US airports with Rohde & Schwarz security scanners for the 2026 FIFA World Cup

The US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will deploy Rohde & Schwarz QPS201 security scanners at airport security checkpoints in the 2026 World Cup host cities. The scanners work with Advanced Imaging Technology (AIT) and are designed to make security checks for passengers faster and more precise.

Rohde & Schwarz has been awarded a multi-million dollar contract by the TSA. The contract includes the delivery of QPS201 AIT security scanners for selected airports in the host cities of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

"We are very excited about this contract, which will allow us to deploy our high-performance, passenger-friendly QPS201 security screening technology to modernize security screening at host city airports," said Frank Dunn, CEO of Rohde & Schwarz USA, Inc. "TSA's continued investment in the QPS will also further strengthen Rohde & Schwarz's economic impact as we grow our business and create jobs at our Maryland and Texas facilities."

"We are proud that the TSA is investing in modernizing security screening with our powerful QPS201 technology platform," added Andreas Haegele, Vice President of Microwave Imaging. "Rohde & Schwarz is strongly committed to the partnership with the TSA. We will continue to develop and deliver innovative and effective screening solutions to make airport security more efficient and convenient in a decade that will be marked by major events, including the World Cup, the 250th anniversary of the United States and the Olympic Games."

Certification and worldwide use

The QPS201 received TSA certification in 2022 and is therefore officially approved for use at US passenger checkpoints. It meets the highest security standards of the TSA and the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC). Over 100 QPS201 scanners are already in use at US airports, with more than 2,000 systems installed worldwide.

The scanners use secure millimeter-wave radio technology to quickly and precisely check passengers for hidden threats. A scan only takes a few milliseconds. The open design and hands-down scanning pose make security screening easily accessible for travelers.

Increased efficiency and passenger comfort

With this equipment, the TSA aims to optimize the flow of passengers at major international events such as the 2026 FIFA World Cup without compromising security standards. The QPS201 technology is intended to increase both efficiency and convenience at the security checkpoints.
