SW invests: Subsidiary celebrates plant opening in the USA
SW North America, Inc., a subsidiary of Schwäbische Werkzeugmaschinen GmbH (SW), recently inaugurated a new production facility in the state of Michigan. The 3,700 m², USD 12 million plant, which is located in New Hudson (Lyon County), was officially opened from November 10 to 12, 2017 in a three-day event with a total of 300 guests, including well-known representatives from politics and business. In addition to product presentations in the new showroom, the state-of-the-art training facilities were also presented.
"Our new manufacturing facility in New Hudson not only allows SW North America to expand its position in the growing automotive market, but also to expand its customer base in the industrial, aerospace, defense, alternative energy, transportation and medical markets," said James Campbell, President/CSO of SW North America. SW is a manufacturer of multi-spindle horizontal machining centers and manufacturing systems and, prior to investing in the new facility on Lyon Industrial Court Road, operated a sales and service facility 30 miles away in Canton. "We currently employ 40 people at the new facility," adds Mark Reichenbacher, President/CEO of SW North America.
The newly opened production facility in Michigan is part of SW's growth strategy. "In addition to our headquarters in Waldmössingen, we also want to invest more in our subsidiaries in the future, such as SW Automation GmbH in Tettnang," says Markus Schmolz, Commercial Director at SW. SW opened a new plant in China just last year. Another subsidiary is located in Mexico. cs
