Ringspann takes over Italian brake manufacturer Ostelectric

With the acquisition of the Italian brake manufacturer Ostelectric, Ringspann completes its portfolio in industrial brake technology and at the same time continues its internationalization course.

Ringspann's industrial brake portfolio now also includes a large selection of electro-hydraulic drum brakes such as the DT 200 FEM shown here (up to 310 Nm braking torque). (Image: Ringspann)

For purchasers of drive components, this means that in addition to freewheels, shaft-hub connections, overload and shaft couplings as well as mechanical remote controls, Ringspann now also offers all common types of industrial brakes - including the appropriate controls.

Ernst Fritzemeier, Head of Technology, Production and Procurement at Ringspann: "Thanks to the acquisition of Ostelectric, we are now also a manufacturer of electrohydraulic lifting devices, which are among the most important functional elements of electrohydraulic drum and disc brakes." "The takeover of the brake manufacturer Ostelectric, based in Limbiate in northern Italy, which was completed on January 1 of this year, brings us a big step closer to achieving these goals," says Ernst Fritzemeier, Managing Director of Technology, Production and Procurement at Ringspann. Although the Bad Homburg-based company has been offering a steadily growing selection of stopping, control and holding brakes of various types for braking torques from 0.5 to 325,000 Nm for over 40 years, it is now significantly expanding its range of industrial brakes with the latest takeover.

Ernst Fritzemeier draws attention to the crucial point: "Ostelectric not only has a high level of engineering and manufacturing expertise in the field of electrohydraulic drum and disc brakes, but is also an established manufacturer of electrohydraulic lifting devices, which are among the most important functional elements of these brake types. The takeover will therefore also strengthen our development and manufacturing expertise in this area."

In the field of electro-hydraulic disc brakes, the company's industrial brake range now covers braking forces from 200 to 19,900 Nm; for electro-hydraulic drum brakes, the selection now ranges from 230 to 7,200 Nm braking torque. "The integration of the Ostelectric range into our portfolio has resulted in an enormous consolidation of our brake range in terms of performance and also means that Ringspann customers can now obtain all relevant construction and function types of industrial brakes - including the appropriate control systems," says Fritzemeier.

The production site in Limbiate, just outside Milan, is to be retained, but the Italian manufacturer's extensive brake expertise is to be transferred to Ringspann's headquarters in Bad Homburg, according to the agreement. The previous owner of Ostelectric, Roberto Casini, will be in charge of this process. As an expert on international markets, he will also act as a consultant for Ringspann over the next three years. The entire workforce of Ostelectric will be taken over and placed under the personnel management of Ringspann Italia in the neighboring town of Lainate. kp
