Fiber optic measurement

Marvin Meyke,

Real-time transmission via fiber

Polytec offers the ODiSI-7000 system family for fiber optic-based measurement of temperature and strain profiles. The fiber optic interrogator differs from fiber Bragg-based systems due to its high spatial resolution of less than 1 millimeter.

With 50 meter long measuring sections, 76,000 measuring points are available in a single standard glass fiber. The temperature measuring range extends from -40 to +300 degrees Celsius. Cryogenic areas can also be measured using special fibers. In strain measurement, +/-12,000 microstrains are possible.

The measurement resolution is 0.1 degrees Celsius or +/-1 microstrain. The system can be expanded to up to eight channels. Areas of application include model and simulation validation, temperature and load monitoring of composite materials as well as fatigue tests and material structure monitoring.
