Plagiarius: brazen counterfeits wanted in 2020
Entrepreneurs, designers and inventors who are annoyed by brazen cases of plagiarism once again have the opportunity to submit their original products and alleged imitations to the Plagiarius competition.
The "Plagiarius" negative prize has been awarded to manufacturers and retailers of particularly brazen counterfeits and fakes since 1977. The aim of the Plagiarius campaign is to raise public awareness of the unscrupulous business practices of product and brand pirates and to sensitize industry, politics and consumers to the problem. In addition, the appreciation for intellectual property, for innovative and creative achievements, is to be increased.
Once again this year, entrepreneurs, designers and inventors can nominate the plagiarist - whether manufacturer or retailer - as the winner of the Negative Award. The trophy is a black dwarf with a golden nose - a symbol of the immense profits that unimaginative imitators literally make at the expense of creative people and the industry.
Before the annually changing jury of experts selects the winners from all the entries, the alleged plagiarists are informed of their nomination in writing by the Plagiarius campaign and are given the opportunity to comment. The wide media reach and high profile of the "Plagiarius" have regularly had a deterrent effect over the years: The fear of public disgrace has led many a plagiarist to seek an agreement with the original manufacturer and remove remaining stock from the market, sign a cease-and-desist declaration or disclose suppliers.
The award ceremony will take place during a press conference at the Ambiente trade fair in Frankfurt. During Ambiente (February 7 to 11, 2020), all submitted originals and plagiarisms will be prominently displayed. The award-winning products will then be presented to a wide audience online and at Plagiarius exhibitions.
