Tripling of capacities
Physik Instrumente expands development and production site
Physik Instrumente (PI Group) is investing around EUR 16 million in the expansion of its site in Eschbach im Breisgau. In the course of 2024, the high-tech company will have around 6,000m2 of additional production, laboratory and office space at its disposal.
This will more than double the plant area and PI will create up to 150 additional jobs. Overall, production capacity at the Eschbach plant will triple as a result.
With around 135 employees, the Eschbach site is currently the PI Group's competence center for linear axes, rotary tables and system solutions for high-precision positioning tasks. The systems comprise mechanics, drive technology and control units with software. They are used, for example, in automation technology, semiconductor production and microscopy.
Parallel to the expansion, the company is increasingly focusing on Industry 4.0 principles for greater flexibility and higher throughput. For example, assistance systems support employees in the varied assembly of customer-specific products and solutions. Driverless transport systems are optimizing the flow of materials in assembly as part of the new building with software control. PI also meets future customer requirements with additional clean rooms. The company expects to triple capacity at the plant in Eschbach through a combination of increasing the number of employees, more space and the introduction of Industry 4.0 principles.
Significantly reducedCO2 footprint
A photovoltaic system on the roof of the new building will generate renewable electricity. The plant in Eschbach is also switching to environmentally friendly district heating. Together with the use of sustainable building and insulation materials, this meets the highest environmental requirements.
Record investments in growth
The PI Group increased its turnover by around 27% to EUR 243 million in the 2021 financial year. "We also expect double-digit growth rates in the coming years," says Markus Spanner, CEO of the PI Group, optimistically. By the end of 2022, PI will have invested a total of more than 60 million euros in the further expansion of its development and production capacities. The expansion in Eschbach will further increase the investment volume.
