The show with the mouse
Mouse door-opening day on the subject of acoustics at Ziehl-Abegg
Every year on "Mouse Door Opener Day" on October 3, the children's series "Sendung mit der Maus" opens doors for children that are otherwise closed.
At Ziehl-Abegg, the children were allowed to screw, assemble and solder on this day. There was also a screaming competition in the world's largest measuring chamber for fans. "We want to get the children excited about technical issues," says Peter Fenkl, the company's CEO.
Hundreds of institutions and companies open their doors to children every year. "As a specialist for quiet and efficient fans and electric motors, Ziehl-Abegg is putting acoustics at the center of the 2018 Door Opener Day," says the CEO.
The company ideally implements the wishes of the "Sendung mit der Maus": "A pure open day is not in the spirit of the mouse - we bring the children closer to the technology, explain connections and let them assemble something themselves," emphasizes Fenkl. The 9- to 12-year-olds built an active loudspeaker for cell phones at the Training Center in Künzelsau: from the circuit board to the finished housing with light-emitting diode. Trainers and trainees from Ziehl-Abegg acted as instructors and helpers.
For the first time, there was a shouting contest in the world's largest measuring chamber for fans. The measuring devices and the set-up are certified by international testing organizations such as AMCA and TÜV. Each child was allowed to scream as loud as possible in complete silence - the measurement experts determined exactly how loud the scream was. A personalized certificate then showed both the measured value in dB (A) and a comparative noise (from a vacuum cleaner to a jackhammer, for example), as well as the signatures of the measurement experts and the "Sendung mit der Maus" logo.
