Development and research cooperation

Kiefel and watttron develop together

Plastics machinery and toolmaking specialist Kiefel, Freilassing, and the Freital-based innovation forge watttron have agreed a comprehensive and long-term development and research collaboration.

The aim of the close collaboration is to develop pioneering solutions for the industrial molding of plastics. These should enable a previously unattained level of quality and efficiency, particularly in packaging production.

The basis for the development goals is the heating technology from watttron. This allows surfaces to be heated with pinpoint accuracy using square heating pixels. Each pixel can be controlled individually. The film can thus be heated unevenly and the flow behavior of the plastic film can be optimally adapted to the desired shape. This makes it possible to achieve uniform wall thicknesses in the molded parts. As a result, the processor can use a much thinner plastic film and energy consumption is also significantly reduced.

"We are excited about our partner's technology and look forward to contributing our industry experience to develop marketable solutions for the key packaging, medical and automotive industries. This collaboration is fully in line with the pioneering spirit of our company," comments Thomas J. Halletz, Managing Director of Kiefel, on the signing of the contract.

Kiefel's internationally successful business activities in the packaging industry will be used as a basis for industry-oriented development and successful marketing of the new products as part of the collaboration. In addition, the development teams will be involved in the projects together with the subsidiaries Bosch Sprang and Mould & Matic.
