Endress+Hauser: 287 patent applications in 2018

The number of patent applications filed by the Endress+Hauser Group continues to grow. In 2018, a record number of 287 initial applications were filed. This was reported by the company on the occasion of the Group's annual innovators' meeting, which takes place in France. In total, the measurement technology specialist now holds almost 7,800 active industrial property rights worldwide.

"We have once again achieved record figures this year, both in terms of patent applications and patents granted," says Angelika Andres, Corporate Director Intellectual Property Rights, delighted with the results. While 309 new invention disclosures stand for the unbroken innovative strength, the number of 537 patents granted also represents an all-time high.

Around a third of new registrations relate to the areas of Industry 4.0, digital communication and device diagnostics. Under the motto #empowerthefield, the company has been bundling its digital activities since 2018 with a focus on Heartbeat Technology and the recently launched IIoT ecosystem Netilion.

Every invention disclosure is examined in a multi-stage internal process and submitted to the patent office - usually within four months. Since 2016, Endress+Hauser has also had its own patent department in the USA, one of the Group's most important markets. At the Greenwood/Indiana site, four specialists ensure that technical innovations are protected. All initial applications from Group companies in the USA are now handled in full from there, and 80 percent of foreign applications.

Matthias Altendorf, CEO of the Endress+Hauser Group, and other members of the Executive Board welcomed over 300 guests to the annual Innovators' Meeting in Saint-Louis, France, at the end of March under the motto "Innovation - what makes us human". Employees who were involved in a patent application presented their ideas at the traditional meeting; outstanding patents were awarded prizes.
