Thomas Ulbrich takes over
E-mobility new board department at VW
Volkswagen is strengthening the area of e-mobility and creating an independent Board of Management department for e-mobility. Thomas Ulbrich, previously Board Member for Production and Logistics, will assume responsibility for the department, which includes the e-mobility series and the production of vehicles on the new MEB platform at the future e-locations worldwide. Ulbrich's successor as the brand's Board Member for Production will also be Dr. Andreas Tostmann, previously Board Member for Production at the SEAT brand, as of February 2018.
Thomas Ulbrich (51) holds a degree in automotive engineering and has worked for the Volkswagen Group since 1989. In 1996, he took over as Head of Logistics at FAW-Volkswagen in China. After holding positions in Wolfsburg and Emden, he moved to Auto 5000 in Wolfsburg in 2001 as Technical Managing Director and Spokesman of the Board of Management. In 2008, he became Chief Production Officer of the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles brand, and in 2010 Technical Executive Vice President of Shanghai-Volkswagen in China. Since April 2014, he has been Board Member for Production and Logistics at the Volkswagen brand. In future, the newly created E-Mobility department will combine project responsibility for all Volkswagen e-vehicles and the development of Europe's largest competence center for e-vehicles in Zwickau.
Dr. Andreas Tostmann (55) holds a degree in industrial engineering and has worked at Volkswagen since 1990. After holding various positions of responsibility, including in Mexico, he was responsible for technical project planning and project management for drive systems in the Group from 1995, before becoming plant manager in Salzgitter in 2001. In 2004, he moved to Volkswagen South Africa as Managing Director. In 2007, he took over as Chairman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen Slovakia, where he was also Head of Production. He has been SEAT's Board Member for Production since December 2011. kp
