Airbus takes over Spirit AeroSystems sites and integrates 4000 employees

Airbus SE has completed the acquisition of several industrial sites from Spirit AeroSystems. The transaction concerns production sites and activities directly related to the Group's commercial aircraft programs.

With the conclusion of the deal, Airbus is expanding its industrial base along key production steps. More than 4,000 employees will move to Airbus as part of the takeover.

Florent Massou, Executive Vice President Operations in the Commercial Aircraft division, described the deal as an important milestone for the Group:

"This milestone marks a special moment for all of us at Airbus. We are proud to welcome over 4,000 new colleagues as we open a new chapter in our industrial activities by taking on tasks of critical importance to our commercial aircraft programs."

Which sites Airbus is taking over

With the transaction, several former Spirit AeroSystems sites will become the property of Airbus. They will be organizationally integrated into existing Airbus structures or continued as new units.

Kinston, North Carolina (USA)

The site manufactures fuselage sections for the A350 long-haul aircraft and will operate under the name Airbus Aerosystems Kinston in future.

Saint-Nazaire, France

Also specializing in A350 fuselage sections. The site will become part of Airbus Atlantic Cadréan.

Casablanca, Morocco

Components for the A321 and A220 programs are produced here. The site will continue to operate under the name Airbus Atlantic Maroc Aero.

Belfast, Northern Ireland

The production of A220 wings and the A220 center fuselage will in future be managed under the name Airbus Belfast.

Prestwick, Scotland

The site manufactures wing components for the A320 and A350 programs. It will continue to operate as an affiliated company under the name Prestwick Aerosystems.

Airbus is also relocating the production of A220 pylons. This will be withdrawn from Wichita, Kansas, and transferred to the Saint-Eloi site in Toulouse.

Financial regulations

As part of the acquisition, Airbus will receive a compensation payment of USD 439 million. The amount is subject to customary purchase price adjustments and a subsequent review after completion of the transaction.

In addition, Airbus receives further payments to settle obligations arising from the purchase agreements.

Classification

With the takeover, Airbus is integrating several previously external production areas into its own industrial organization. The aim is to manage activities of central importance to the commercial aircraft programs more directly in future and to integrate them more closely into the company's own production processes.
