Positioning drive with IO-Link

When changing formats on production machines, such as packaging machines or labelers, precise and reproducible positioning is always important. In addition to optimizing machine set-up times, fully automated positioning drives can also prevent incorrect settings. Positioning drives from Siko can do this as standard, but the new AG03/1 IO-Link actuator, for example, is now also available with an IO-Link interface.

The AG03/1 actuator from Siko enables fast integration via point-to-point connection using simple I/O connection technology. Thanks to the open, manufacturer-independent standard of the IO-Link interface, convenient integration options are available in machine control systems from all leading suppliers. Several devices can be modularly networked via IO-Link master modules. This reduces the complexity and wiring effort as well as the commissioning effort. The standardized wiring combined with additional diagnostic functions increases service friendliness and thus reduces downtimes in the event of a fault. The IO-Link master allows parameter data to be read from a field device, saved and loaded into a new, identical device in the event of a replacement, even while the process is running.

In the Industry 4.0 or smart factory environment, it is often not enough to simply exchange process data; communication must also be able to read out diagnostic values such as output stage temperature, motor current and various voltage values. In addition, the electronic type plate provides clear identification of the device type as well as the serial number, hardware and software version, so that maintenance intervals can also be planned.

Condition monitoring and predictive maintenance

Siko actuators provide specific data via the IO-Link interface so that tasks such as condition monitoring and predictive maintenance can be used in central, higher-level systems, including the cloud. With the open IO-Link standards, a large number of network components from different manufacturers are available to implement end-to-end communication from the field level to the cloud safely and easily.

Even with center distances of just 37 mm, two adjacent AG03/1 positioning drives do not interfere with each other, meaning that they can also be used for very closely spaced axes. The actuator integrates the position measuring system, the complete control electronics and the IO-Link interface in a compact housing just 80 mm deep.

The brushless 24 V EC motor delivers 50 W, operates wear-free and therefore offers a long service life. At the same time, with a torque of 3.2 Nm and a maximum speed of up to 100 rpm, it offers high performance for adjusting formats, stops and tools. The absolute magnetic measuring system provides position values with a high resolution of 1,600 steps per revolution - over a total travel range of ±6,250 revolutions. There is no need for reference runs when switching on the drives. The magnetic measuring system also proves to be insensitive to dirt, moisture, shock and vibrations.
