Drive for autonomous waste robot

This year, Groschopp will be presenting an intelligent refuse robot at the SPS, whose main axis is driven by two electronically commutated low-voltage servo motors of type EGK 48-60 from the Black Panther series.

The autonomous robot was created as part of a student research project at the University of Novi Sad, Serbia. The students from the Faculty of Engineering had a completely free hand in its development. They designed, manufactured and programmed it completely on their own. The robot is equipped with two cameras and programmed to independently detect and automatically remove waste. It is crucial that the robot moves as smoothly as possible and is positioned precisely. The servomotors from the EGK series, which drive the main axis together with a worm gear, are ideal for this purpose.

EGK motors are small, flexibly configurable and powerful. They operate with a compact servo controller, which can also be integrated into the motor and therefore requires little installation space. One advantage for the university project: as the EGK 48-60 and its power electronics work from a supply voltage of just nine volts, it is ideal for mobile applications. In addition, the drive solution can be adapted to any application thanks to its freely programmable software and the numerous electronic and design options - an advantage that the students also greatly appreciated. The Windows-based user interface of the programming software facilitates the parameterization of the drive.

The low-voltage servomotor did not have to be significantly modified for use in the university project. However, there are basically no limits to the design of application-specific special solutions at Groschopp. "From the adaptation of voltage or power to modifications to cables, plugs and mechanics through to interfaces such as Canopen, Ethercat, Profibus, RS-232 or even Profinet, everything is possible," explains Christian Skaletz, the responsible product manager at Groschopp. as
