B&R security cells protect against cyber threats
To protect systems from cyberattacks, B&R has further developed the user management of the Aprol process control system.
Distributed autonomous security cells efficiently protect systems against malware and hacker attacks. For protection on the World Wide Web, large systems are divided into security cells. If one security cell is attacked from outside, all other cells can continue to work without being affected. This minimizes potential damage and increases the availability of the system at the same time.
To achieve this, the system is first divided into autonomously functioning automation cells (process cells). These consist of production-relevant zones, sections, sub-areas or sub-systems. One or more automation cells are then combined into security cells. In total, the flexible client/server architecture enables up to 64 security cells. With the multi-runtime server architecture, 'Aprol' ensures the independent operation of all required systems. A separate LDAP server (389 Directory Server) is available on each multi-runtime server. This means that (sub-)systems within a security cell can also be operated without a network connection to the outside.
