Promess at Motek 2023: modular individual workstations

At this year's Motek, Promess will be showcasing its modular individual workstations and how easily they can be partially automated at stand 3207 in hall 3. The servo press manufacturer will also be providing information about the latest features of its Revolution X press control system. The focus here will be on another station where the new lightweight press will be demonstrated in a customer application.

Robot-assisted expansion in assembly or testing

The modular individual workstations with NC joining system are suitable for the production of small and medium-sized series, sample and prototype construction or material testing. They are autonomous stations, numerically controlled and of the highest precision. They are type-tested and guarantee the appropriate level of operator safety when inserting and removing workpieces. At Motek, visitors can see for themselves how easy it is to load and unload the individual workstation using a lightweight robot. The automation solution is implemented via a dockable material table. The integrated passive safety elements and the use of radar safety sensors enable safe operation without fencing. The material table can be removed and re-docked in a few simple steps, thus ensuring maximum flexibility in production. Once the material table has been removed, the robot assumes a parking position and releases the work area for manual operation.

Modular system

The modular system of individual workstations offers various configuration options for individual applications. The centerpiece is the UFM universal joining module, which is tailored to the customer's requirements in terms of size and specification. It is available in the force range from three to 1,000 kilonewtons. The configuration of the other components, such as the control cabinet and press frame, is based on the selection of the joining module. The selection of the desired safety device completes the workstation. Expansion options, such as the integration of external sensors, a barcode scanner or additional inputs and outputs, are available for further customization of the workstation.

Lightweight press for punching, riveting, setting

In addition to the modular individual workstations, Promess is presenting its visitors with a new universal joining module from the UFM Compact series. The new lightweight press has a compact and lightweight design and is currently available in sizes 50 and 80 kilonewtons. With a net weight of 50 and 76 kilograms respectively, it is particularly suitable for use on robots. It can be used for punching, riveting or setting processes.

The new joining module is already in use at Arnold Umformtechnik. The specialist for fastening systems installs the modules in its systems for the automatic joining of pierce nuts. A lightweight joining module with a nominal force of 80 kilonewtons and the new Revolution X press control system from Promess is used here. This enables Arnold to offer a new software-based control concept for its system.
