Ergonomic workstations

Fits like a glove

With the Werkstar, Werksitz has developed a task chair that can be individually adapted to different body proportions. The synchronously adjustable seat and backrest tilt strengthens the back muscles and relieves pressure on the intervertebral discs. The chairs can be configured online.

One innovation is the optimized backrest shape: the side bolsters rest against the back and thus provide support. Nevertheless, the special shape does not restrict the freedom of movement of the shoulder area. (Image: Werksitz)

Prolonged sitting poses major health risks: Musculoskeletal disorders, which can be caused by a lack of movement, account for almost 25 percent of all days of incapacity to work in Germany. Ergonomic workplace equipment has a preventative effect here. Many factors play a role in the ergonomics of sitting: from sitting comfort and dynamic sitting to the ability to adapt to the user - many requirements must be met before comfortable sitting is possible in the long term. However, it is not only the health aspect that is of great importance in production; the chair must also be particularly robust. Werksitz has achieved this balancing act with the new Werkstar series.

Different sizes and proportions

Numerous adjustment options ensure a high level of seating comfort: the chair can be adjusted to the user's size and proportions with just a few hand movements using a multi-function handwheel. The backrest pressure and seat height can be finely adjusted. The backrest can also be locked using a lever. A new feature here is the so-called backrest anti-shock system: "When the backrest is locked in a certain position, it can be released by pressing again. This causes the backrest to move forward slowly and doesn't snap into the back," explains Stefan Milewski, Sales Manager at Werksitz.

Another lever can be used to choose between three seat tilt angles - zero, 2.5 and five degrees - which plays an important role in evenly distributing pressure and thus preventing back pain. The seat depth can also be adjusted by up to 60 millimetres.

Promoting back health

Another new feature is the optimized design of the backrest. "We have adapted the backrest better to the shape of the back: Now the side bolsters rest against the back and thus have a supportive effect," notes Milewski. Nevertheless, the special shape does not restrict the freedom of movement of the shoulder area. Added to this is the adapted lumbar support. This promotes the natural curvature of the spine in the lumbar region, which prevents pain in the lower back.

The series is manufactured in our own factory in accordance with the DIN ISO 9001 quality management system and is subjected to several load tests. This includes a tilt test to ensure that the chair is stable. (Image: Factory seat)

"But no matter how well the chair can be adapted to the user, remaining in the same position for a long time can still lead to health problems," emphasizes Milewski. This is why ergonomic chairs should enable "dynamic sitting": Only by alternating sitting positions can the back remain in motion, so that the back muscles are strengthened when the posture is upright and the intervertebral discs are relieved when the posture is relaxed. For this reason, the seat and backrest tilt of the Werkstar can be adjusted synchronously, so that the back is optimally supported at all times, even when changing posture.

The series is manufactured in our own factory in accordance with the DIN ISO 9001 quality management system and is subjected to several stress tests. This includes, for example, a tilt test to ensure that the chair is stable. It also complies with all current regulations, including the GS test, TÜV/LGA test, DIN 68877 and the Workplace Ordinance § 25.

Modular online assembly

The furniture can be put together modularly - also online via a configurator - to ensure maximum customization to individual requirements. You can choose between different foot shapes, access aids, armrests, colors and much more. An ESD version is also possible. Thanks to the high-quality materials used for its components, the Werkstar is robust and hard-wearing: The backrest bar and the base are made of sturdy aluminum, while the other hard parts are made of durable polypropylene and PA6 polyamide. Should the chair nevertheless become damaged, individual components can be replaced at any time thanks to the modular design, and the manufacturer guarantees that they can be reordered. Overall, the Werkstar consists of just a few components, which also makes it easy to repair. With a ten-year guarantee, the chair offers long-term investment security.

The seat upholstery is also available in different versions, all of which are characterized by their robustness and ease of cleaning. The PVC option is suitable for use in production, as it is hard-wearing, abrasion-resistant and easy to clean. In addition, artificial leather, Soft-Pur integral foam and fabric upholstery can be ordered in various colors. If required, the different variants can also be combined with each other. "All upholstery is breathable and has integrated air circulation channels that ensure an optimal microclimate," adds Milewski. In this way, they actively help to dissipate heat and prevent moisture build-up. as
