Stratasys provides 3D printing resources for personal protection
Stratasys has announced a global mobilization of the company's 3D printing resources and expertise to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This includes Stratasys, GrabCAD, Stratasys Direct Manufacturing and the entire partner network donating printing capacity in all regions. The initial focus is on providing thousands of disposable face shield visors for medical personnel.
In the US, Stratasys has set a goal to provide 5,000 face shield visors for free by Friday, March 27. This includes both a 3D-printed plastic frame and a clear plastic shield that covers the entire face. The company wants to scale up to an even faster production rate. Any 3D printing store can fill out an online form to participate as well.
"We are grateful for the opportunity to help. We see additive manufacturing as an essential part of the response to the global COVID-19 epidemic," says Yoav Zeif, CEO at Stratasys. "The strengths of 3D printing - being accessible anywhere, the ability to print virtually anything, making adjustments on the fly - make it possible to address the shortages and bottlenecks of parts related to visors, masks and ventilators."
Stratasys has numerous professional 3D printers that can be used for the production of visors on a large scale. Numerous other large manufacturers and educational institutions with 3D printers have also made their capacities available.
Stratasys has set up a website where companies can request 3D printed products or 3D printers and materials for medical or safety-related purposes or also offer 3D printing capacities: www.stratasys.com/covid-19.
The company also plans to support an initiative led by the anesthesiologists at Massachusetts General Hospital called the CoVent-19 Challenge. This involves asking engineers and designers to help develop a new, rapidly deployable ventilator and other innovative solutions.
