Software for Covid-19 temperature screenings
Flir has introduced Screen-EST software for the T, Exx and A series thermal imaging cameras. The software has automatic measurement functions that check people for an elevated body temperature in a maximum of two seconds, while maintaining the required minimum distance.
"Governments and businesses around the world are working hard to develop new ways to protect public health and safety in times of Covid-19, including the use of radiometric thermal imaging cameras as part of a comprehensive initial detection program," said Jim Cannon, President and CEO of Flir. "Now these facilities and organizations can increase the speed and accuracy of initial detection using FLIR's thermal imaging cameras."
The Screen-EST (Elevated Skin Temperature) method takes a temperature measurement close to a person's lacrimal gland, the area of the body surface whose temperature most closely corresponds to the body's core temperature. When used with T-, Exx- or A-Series cameras, the software enables up to 50 percent faster screening of people compared to Flir's existing in-camera screening mode, significantly speeding up throughput. If the software detects a skin temperature above an above-average threshold, Screen-EST notifies the user with an audible or visual signal on the display screen.
Screen-EST automatically takes skin temperature reference measurements at the screening location in order to determine a basic average value for the skin temperature. Over the course of the day, the software takes further reference values. This relative method of temperature screening takes into account normal fluctuations in body temperature due to biological and external environmental factors, reducing the number of false alarms compared to alarm systems that use absolute readings.
The Screen-EST software is designed for Windows-based laptop and desktop computers. It has a plug-and-play connection for Flir thermal imaging cameras and can be installed or removed within minutes. This provides increased flexibility for users who want to quickly relocate or use the camera for other purposes, such as plant maintenance or machine inspection.
The software for T-series cameras is now available worldwide for 595 euros in the English language version only. The Screen-EST software for the Exx and A series will be available later this month. as
