The imess C260 measuring module developed by imess Optische Mess- und Prüfanlagen GmbH enables plug connections to be checked using measuring equipment.
Compliance with the geometry specifications is highly relevant in connector production. Electrical contact can only be ensured and failures avoided if the connector fits perfectly into the mating part. If faulty products get into circulation, this can result in serious accidents and high costs. Connectors are often found in safety-relevant components and must therefore be manufactured exactly according to the drawing. imess offers an innovative, laser-based measuring module for the required inspection, in which both the soldering and mating sides of the connector are subjected to a 100% inspection. The test procedure is capable of measuring even the smallest tolerances and is already being used reliably in production facilities around the world. A certified calibration standard serves as proof.
In practice, the inspection process is carried out by measuring the workpiece carrier fitted with several connectors as it passes through. To avoid the negative effects of shadowing, two laser profile sensors scan the connectors at a speed of up to 60 millimetres per second. The scan profiles are transmitted directly to the imess software and the evaluation is displayed on a monitor. The result of the target/actual comparison can therefore be seen at a glance. The tolerance violations of the following features are presented: Wobble circle (top of pin), coplanarity or flatness of the contacts and length of the contacts. Other features can be customized on request.
