Nomination Products of the Year 2024
iba: ibaM-DAQ
Real-time process monitoring directly at the edge: the modular ibaM-DAQ measuring system records and processes signals synchronously and precisely. The edge device has been nominated in the competition for Product of the Year 2024 in the Drive Technology and Automation category.
With the new ibaM-DAQ edge device, users record process data directly at the machine or system in high resolution and without gaps. The flexible system enables individual solutions, scalable and perfectly tailored to demanding tasks. ibaM-DAQ is equipped with the proven ibaPDA measurement data acquisition software and can work as a stand-alone device. Thanks to its compact design, ibaM-DAQ is predestined for use close to the process or system and wherever space is at a premium.
In addition to the synchronous acquisition and storage of measurement data, ibaM-DAQ is able to aggregate the data live or product by product and calculate onboard characteristic values using the corresponding software of the iba system. These characteristic values can also be stored locally or forwarded to higher-level database or cloud systems. Thanks to the numerous network interfaces, ibaM-DAQ can be integrated into any IT structures. For data acquisition at the edge, ibaM-DAQ can be combined with up to 15 different I/O modules. There is a choice of modules for discrete input and output signals as well as for special technological functions. The system can be flexibly expanded at any time as requirements grow.
The scalable system therefore offers a high level of investment security and meets the highest demands. With other iba applications, such as ibaInSpectra or ibaInCycle, user-specific edge analytics solutions for process monitoring and anomaly detection can be implemented. This allows processes to be monitored in real time - based on data and exactly where the data is generated.
Typical areas of application are the monitoring of cyclical processes, rotating machines and quasi-cyclical processes for the early detection of wear and anomalies, such as the monitoring of saw blades, crane movements, injection molding processes, machine conditions, etc. The components offer simple limit value alarms, extended reference curve monitoring, auto-adapting functions or the use of neural networks through the seamless integration of external machine learning systems. The monitoring can be easily configured and is based on existing measurement data, so no additional sensors are required. For interactive offline in-depth analysis of the data, it is easy to drill down from the calculated characteristic values to the raw data.
Interfaces to control and automation systems
ibaM-DAQ can be quickly and flexibly adapted to a wide variety of measuring tasks. The system is particularly suitable for decentralized applications. Interfaces to all common control and automation systems are available. This means that data can be recorded directly from Siemens, ABB, Bachmann, Beckhoff, B&R, Mitsubishi, Omron, Rockwell, Sigmatek and Codesys-based controllers via Ethernet without additional hardware.
A particular advantage is the combination of ibaM-DAQ with the modules of the ibaMAQ system. The I/O modules offer deterministic and isochronous measurement data acquisition of the various signal sources. With a resolution of 24 bits for A/D conversion and a sampling rate of up to 500 kHz, the I/O modules are also equipped for very demanding measurement tasks. In addition, the modules offer calibrated A/D converters and galvanically isolated channels. All channels are sampled in parallel and synchronously. This means that ibaM-DAQ can be used for demanding applications with a high data acquisition rate, such as condition monitoring or in electrical power engineering for power quality applications and transient fault recorders (TFR).
With a clever mechanism, ibaMAQS offers high functionality in an extremely compact design. During development, the focus was on simple handling and quick installation or replacement of the modules. The modules are plugged onto a top-hat rail without tools and are immediately connected mechanically and electrically thanks to the innovative module connection technology. The connection can be released again using the integrated operating lever and the module can be removed or replaced without tools.
