Metrology and production are moving closer together

From 7 to 10 May in Stuttgart, the trade fair for quality assurance will be showcasing digitalized systems for the real-time visualization of measurement data, making production even more efficient.

Good times for quality production: today, modern measurement technology delivers ever more precise measurement data, which is read and interpreted by machine more than ever before. The right equipment, appropriate advice and intelligent software for these and all other QA requirements will be on display at Control - International Trade Fair for Quality Assurance from May 7 to 10 in Stuttgart.

Real-time measurement data supports inline QA processes
"Customers from the manufacturing industry not only expect precise and reliable measurement data, but increasingly also a visualization of this data in real time," explains Professor Alexander Reiterer, Head of Department at the Fraunhofer Institute for Physical Measurement Techniques, IPM, and adds: "Application-specific visualized data is like a tool with which all conditions can be reliably evaluated and processes intuitively controlled."

Without this measurement data, determined by modern sensors and measurement technology and evaluated by intelligent software in fractions of a second, quality assurance in real time is not possible. "We are seeing that tolerances and structures are being checked more and more frequently during the production process. This is even a trend for 100 percent inspections," reports Fabian Krüger, Project Manager at Control.

Suitable interfaces, technologies and methods are required to display measurement data on mobile devices such as tablets or VR glasses. A software platform with components for the interactive interpretation and visualization of measurement data should also be available. Industrial image processing (IIP), one of the focal points of the world's leading trade fair for quality assurance, plays an important role in this context. Another focus of current research is on data reduction, particularly with regard to the visualization of so-called point clouds, which are created during measurement and data acquisition with laser scanners. Enormous amounts of data then need to be reduced to a level that can be processed quickly.

Special trade fair guide for machine vision and vision systems
Exhibitors who are specifically interested in imaging QA processes will find numerous innovative projects at the trade fair, which will be presented to a specialist audience for the first time, announced the organizer. The new developments will be joined by established and optimized systems.

Exhibitors with a particular interest are also practically guided by the special trade fair guide for industrial image processing and vision systems, which can be accessed online. It lists more than 250 manufacturers and suppliers of components, assemblies, subsystems and complete systems from the respective segments participating in Control.

Interested parties who want to delve even deeper into the topic of vision and machine vision are recommended to attend the corresponding series of lectures by the European Machine Vision Association (EMVA). For the fifth time, the Control cooperation partner will be giving numerous presentations in Hall 6 - Stand 6515. Participation is free of charge. as
