Sensor+Test 2019
Bluetooth low-energy radio transmitter for Track & Trace
The DataEagle Beacon is a small Bluetooth low-energy radio transmitter that sends short signals for orientation, presence detection or information transmission to the immediate surroundings.
The Schildknecht beacon can be operated by battery or 24 V DC. The data packets can be received within a range of approx. 30 meters by devices with a Bluetooth interface, for example DataEagle 2730 radio systems, smartphones or tablets. The beacon can optionally be equipped with an M8 connection. This makes it possible to transmit sensor values, for example.
Bluetooth beacons play an important role in the practical implementation of Industry 4.0. In industrial production, this enables workpieces, machines or people to be identified and production processes to be networked with each other. In the overall concept with the DataEagle 2730 sensor gateway, the beacon information can be transmitted to a controller or to the cloud.
Use case: tool tracking and digital routing slips
The memory function of the radio transmitter can be used to store measured values, product information or other important process information. In the processing machine segment - such as machine tools - drills, for example, are measured at measuring stations. This information could be stored on the DataEagle Beacon by a computer via a DataEagle 2730 gateway. The correct tools are recognized at the machine (the beacon can be located on the tool or on the tool cart) and the dimensions are read out. This improves production quality and, above all, saves time in the process. After processing, the machine can save the processing time of the drill back onto the beacon - it can also replace routing slips in this way.
