Wash-off labels made from 100% PCR material

Thermoformed packaging elements are now an integral part of retail shelves. The aim of this development was to achieve continued high functionality of the packaging with reduced use of resources. In this article, the goal is achieved by reducing the film to a 3D mesh structure and thus achieving material savings of up to 50%. The 3D dimensional stability is convincing even with reduced material usage and the non-dense surface provides helpful functionality, e.g. for fresh products, so that no waterlogging occurs in the packaging and the trays are also used as drip trays by the consumer. In addition, the mesh structure of the packaging offers excellent cushioning properties, which makes it suitable for applications beyond the food sector.

The white label film can be printed very well using standard printing processes such as flexographic, offset, digital and screen printing, as the number of specks has been significantly reduced. HERMA 62Rpw is a wash-off pressure-sensitive adhesive that can be removed residue-free in the recycling process at temperatures as low as 70 °C and a low concentration of alkaline solution. Commercially available wash-off pressure-sensitive adhesives, on the other hand, usually only work from approx. 80 °C.

The result is a recyclable solution made from 100% recycled material that helps to successfully close cycles!
