Interview: Trends in professional fashion
Workwear - sounds good. So good that the term now often replaces the word workwear. A decisive role is played by the fact that the textiles worn at work today are increasingly expected to be fashionable. Thomas Krause from DBL - Deutsche Berufskleider-Leasing provides information on current trends and expectations.
Mr. Krause, what is the current visual taste?
Clearly workwear, which is characterized by current leisure fashion. The trend is continuing towards cool outdoor clothing, and future collections will be even more clearly inspired by it. Today, clothing must first and foremost impress professionals visually, which is a clear selection criterion. Modern, figure-hugging cuts with a sporty, casual touch are desired, with detailed features from the sportswear sector. Colors that underline the look of the casual character also go well with this. Strikingly designed styles that are easily recognizable are on the rise. And preferably in a denim look or in muted melange tones.
Doesn't this mean that quality falls by the wayside?
Not at all. Workwear must continue to fulfill its actual purpose. This includes being highly functional, long-lasting, offering freedom of movement and possibly also safety. Many professionals are fully aware of this - despite the fashion aspect. That is why the trend today is towards very sophisticated, high-quality workwear. On the one hand, it is of high quality and functional, and at the same time fashionable. In our discussions and consultations with customers, we have observed that there is currently a much greater emphasis on such excellent workwear - and have responded accordingly with our own premium collection.
Which fabrics are on trend in 2019?
An intelligent mix of materials is required. Proven classics such as hard-wearing and breathable blended fabrics are often used in combination with very large stretch sections. For example, on the back or arms of jackets and on the thighs of pants. It is precisely these elastic elements that allow the wearer to move comfortably in the current trend for close-fitting cuts. The items also look interesting and very sporty. Another quality feature that is often emphasized is specially reinforced Cordura sections in areas subject to particular stress, such as knees, shoulders, etc. And let's not forget functional textiles, which are becoming increasingly important in workwear.
Safety and PPE: what new developments can you expect in 2019?
We are observing that wearers' demands for comfort and appearance are also increasing for standard-compliant protective clothing. Professionals who normally wear modern workwear do not want to do without comfortable cuts and a modern look in their PPE either. At the same time, protective clothing remains a complex issue for companies that requires a great deal of advice. To avoid making any mistakes in terms of equipment, organization and care, many companies place the issue in professional hands. As a textile rental service provider, we not only support companies with modern workwear and standard-compliant protective clothing, but also guarantee impeccable reprocessing thanks to our certified processes.
