BAuA publishes manual on risk assessment
The Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (BAuA) offers a new manual on risk assessment. The handbook serves as a reference work and replaces the "Guide to risk assessment" previously published by the BAuA.
The handbook is part of the BAuA website. It consists of three parts:
Part 1 contains general information and recommendations on the procedure for risk assessment.
Part 2 contains knowledge relating to risk factors, in particular the relevance of the respective hazards and their effects, bases for investigation and assessment, occupational health and safety measures as well as existing regulations, codes of practice and other (occupational) scientific findings, which are based in particular on the results of current BAuA research activities. For example, the "Mental hazards" factor has been redesigned. This is based on the findings of the extensive research project "Mental health in the world of work". In addition, the topic of working time is presented as an independent factor due to its increasing relevance.
Part 3 provides a comprehensive database with quality-assured guidelines for carrying out risk assessments.
Risk assessment is one of the central elements of occupational health and safety. Every employer, whether a small business or a large company, is obliged under the Occupational Health and Safety Act to carry out a risk assessment for every workplace. The handbook supports occupational health and safety experts who are planning and carrying out a risk assessment. It offers basic knowledge and further sources as well as practical help. It is based on the latest scientific findings and is updated regularly. A new update list indicates the latest changes.
The contents of Parts 1 and 2 of the manual can be used in full or in part as an offline version in the form of a PDF download. A PDF-on-demand function is available for this purpose. As individual chapters and sub-chapters can also be printed out, a loose-leaf collection of the handbook can also be maintained offline. The BAuA website also contains information on BAuA research projects and other publications in the field of risk assessment. This information, as well as the manual on risk assessment, is available at www.gefaehrdungsbeurteilung.de.
