Carrier system

Contactless handling of optical lenses

Glass and plastic lenses for the optical industry are sensitive workpieces whose surfaces must be treated with the utmost sensitivity throughout the entire production process. This also applies to all cleaning processes that the lenses undergo during production. For this reason, washing container specialist LK Mechanik has developed a carrier system that is perfectly tailored to the special requirements of lens production.

The carrier system enables non-contact handling of optical lenses.

It is a flexible two-component solution consisting of a base frame and lens holder, which enables both gentle handling of the lenses and the realization of optimal cleaning results. The system is one of LK Mechanik's exhibition highlights at this year's W3+Fair (February 21-22, 2018) in Wetzlar.

Constructive decoupling

The stainless steel solution is a combined design whose key feature is the structural decoupling of the lightweight frame and delicate lens holders. The retaining clips made of high-quality spring wire (stainless steel 1.4310 bright) for the secure and sensitive holding of the lenses are not firmly attached to the frame, but can be removed together with the lenses. The user can remove each individual lens from the frame without touching it and put it back in again - for example for testing and assembly purposes as part of quality assurance.

The retaining clip principle prevents contamination of the lens surface through direct contact with human skin and is also an important factor in achieving the best cleaning results due to the extremely small contact points between the holder and lens. Mechanical edge zone damage to the lens by the holder is ruled out as its contact areas are coated with a soft Rilsan or Halar rubber coating. This ensures a secure hold and gentle handling of the lenses.

Scalable and stackable

The carrier frame has a high-quality, electropolished surface that ensures optimum drainage of the cleaning media and dirt particles, thus also preventing particle carryover. The frame can be laser-marked for clear identification of batches or series and, as it is scalable, it can be adapted to different customer or product-specific requirements. It can also be fitted with different feet so that it can be stacked with or without lenses.

The workpiece carrier solution is of interest to both manufacturers of cleaning systems and lens manufacturers. In addition to different sizes of the carrier, LK Mechanik also offers the adjustment of the holding clamps to different lens diameters and weights.
