Three questions for... Achim Gauss
Achim Gauß, Managing Director Sales & Technology, explains what new products and developments the Zimmer Group will be presenting at Motek and which sectors are currently undergoing radical change.
Motek's motto is "Smart Solutions for Production and Assembly". What will you be presenting at the trade fair this year?
For the Zimmer Group, Motek is a very important trade fair in the annual cycle. Motek 2019 in particular marks a milestone for the Zimmer Group in several technology areas. In the handling technology area, we will be presenting the GPP/GPD5000AL gripper series, which, as a derivative of the premium 5000 gripper series, adopts many of the features of these technologically leading products: In contrast, however, with an aluminum/steel guide and without standard seals. A top technology for less demanding applications at an extremely attractive price point. We will also be presenting portfolio extensions to the GEP2000, GPP/GPD5000IL and GEH/GED6000 gripper series, the IO-Link feed-through function in energy elements and an end-of-arm flange that makes grippers wireless-capable. In the field of HRC, the Zimmer Group is expanding its already world's largest portfolio with the HRC-03 gripper with freedrive function for Universal Robots.
The Linear Technology division will be presenting the LKE fast electrical clamping system, which demonstrates its advantages as a mechatronic sensor/actuator device in the digitalization environment and in monoenergetic infrastructures. Another highlight is the DHS hydraulic rotary clamping element, which is predestined for installation in machine tools, and portfolio extensions to the LKPS, LBPS and RBPS series.
In the field of damping technology, we are presenting the biggest revolution since the invention of PowerStop technology. The new PowerStop2.0 damper series clearly positions the Zimmer Group as a full-range supplier and global technology leader in the field of industrial damping technology. In the Machine Technology technology area, the Zimmer Group will be presenting the Multi Transport System, which has won the German Innovation Award, in a live demonstration. The Systems Technology division will be presenting new industry-specific application solutions. In the Digital Services area, we will be demonstrating new software modules that ensure simple, error-free and fast implementation and commissioning of automation components for everyone.
You have a broadly diversified portfolio, in which areas, in which major topics are your customers currently investing in particular?
As a full-range supplier, the Zimmer Group not only has a broadly diversified product portfolio, but also a broad international customer base, I find it difficult to generalize. The fact is that certain sectors, such as the automotive industry, are undergoing radical change and there is a shift away from combustion engines towards sustainable forms of propulsion. However, I don't see this as a real problem, but rather as an opportunity and confirmation of the Zimmer Group's growth strategy.
What does this mean for Zimmer? Can you already reveal the areas in which you are developing in particular?
The Zimmer Group will continue to drive forward its development activities in all areas and establish itself as one of the pioneers of digital transformation.
