Components for handling and assembly

handling award: Winner of category 1

On October 8, the handling award was presented again at the Motek trade fair. In category 1, a modular transport system, an automatic hook and a modular system for pressing and joining applications were honored.

Flexible transportation
Zimmer took first place in category 1 "Components for handling and assembly" with its Modular Transport System. The MTS is a modular, flexible, fully scalable transport and handling system with a master/slave and recuperation function.

The system offers a wide range of possible applications. Thanks to its modularity, flexibility and scalability, it can be used both as a transport and handling system. The transport modules transport the workpieces while the speed of each individual shuttle or shuttle group can be freely selected. Depending on the requirements of the MES system, the individually controlled transport units can be used as masters or slaves and operate either individually or in a network. This eliminates the need for rigid coupling of the transport, for example via a continuous conveyor belt.

Viewed over the entire life cycle, the new machine concept also offers a high level of investment security, as the modular design enables subsequent expansions with new processing modules. The modules move along a path that can be configured in almost unlimited lengths and variants. In addition to its enormous flexibility, the MTS also impresses with its energy efficiency, as the system is equipped with a recuperation function which, in combination with the battery intermediate circuit buffering located in the travel path, ensures significantly increased energy efficiency.

The system also offers integrated 48-volt battery buffering, which, in combination with the recuperation function of the transport units, reduces load current peaks by around 85% and the system's energy consumption by more than 8%. The MTS enables integration into the overall system control and thus synchronization with the processing and assembly stations involved.

Production is networked, as all processes are directly connected to a higher-level MES system. Thanks to numerous sensors, current status information can be called up in real time. There is also the option of a cloud connection, and therefore functionalities such as predictive maintenance and statistical evaluations (status and process data evaluation). This ensures comprehensive production control and high production quality.

Safe hook
Carl Stahl secured second place with its Quick Link CLEH automatic hook, which can safely remove loads in the lifting area. This means that the slinger no longer has to enter the danger zone to lower the load. A remote control with a range of around 50 meters ensures sufficient distance from the danger zone. Manufactured in accordance with DIN EN 13155.

Due to its small size and low weight, the Quick Link CLEH offers good usability and is also compatible with almost all anchor points on the market. This enables direct attachment to the anchor point. An additional safety aspect is provided by the mechanical attachment of the load and a time interval between loading and unloading. This reduces the risk of crushing. Areas of application include mechanical engineering, the construction and timber industries and the installation of solar systems.

Fast construction kit
The third prize went to Bosch Rexroth for the electromechanical "Smart Function Kit" for pressing and joining applications. The kit consists of pre-selected mechanical, electrical and software components that are bundled in various kits for forces from two to 30 kilonewtons. All components come from a single supplier and are supplied in a single package, including pre-installed operating software.

According to the motto "Plug & Produce", the user can quickly set up and commission the device. The drive controller is parameterized automatically and, as the drive controller is equipped with an integrated controller, only a few interfaces are required. Another plus point is that no programmer is required for the setup, as the configuration of the process and the evaluation elements is simple and logical. The browser-based human-machine interface can be used on various end devices. Apart from everything else, Baukasten also offers a modern and intuitive design. dsc
