Centering unit

Aligning and fixing workpieces

The new centering unit from Norelem is designed for the exact alignment and fixing of components. It consists of a cone with vulcanized precision balls and a bushing. The special design of the system enables a repeat accuracy of less than 0.003 millimeters.

When joining panels equipped with the centering unit, the balls of the cone rest lightly against the bushing. As soon as the pull-down force is applied, the precision balls press into the cone surface and the bearing surfaces of the plates are aligned with each other. The balls between the outer surface of the bushing and the tapered mandrel deform in the elastic range and center the two parts with the utmost precision. The only requirement for the system to function optimally is the exact installation depth of the bushing. This ensures that the balls are only ever deformed within their plastic range.

This centering unit can compensate for temperature differences of up to 30 Kelvin. The rubber used in the cone does not become brittle and is insensitive to impurities or chips. If chips are pressed in, they are harmless to the system. The new system is available in two different sizes. Cones and bushes of the centering unit are available individually. This means that users can only buy the components that they actually need. pb
